Splinter’s Hardware

11”x8”.  Ink, paper, thread. 2019.

This was one of my first real explorations with artist’s books. For this project, I wanted to recreate the magazines/ads you get for hardware stores. As a women it felt pretty good to be making this! I drew all of the items by hand and used found text and screenshots for the words. The descriptions don’t match the images. This was on purpose.

The book was kettle stitched together with thread. The name of the store is made up, the cover design is based off of a real advertisement. The location and hours  are those of Fitch Lumber and Hardware in Carrboro, NC.
